Measures

The inventory assesses nine personality traits relevant to success in naval aviation.

Navy and Marine Corps applicants to pilot and flight officer programs take it. Applicants who take the OAR alone never see it.

Format

The pairs are built to be hard to choose between. Picking a statement means only that you prefer it to the other one.

Scoring

A pair has no correct or incorrect response.

The inventory is not part of the OAR.

    The trainer runs 88 pairs with no countdown, one pair per screen. You pick by click or with the 1 and 2 keys, go back with Previous and change any answer until you finish. The statements come word for word from the International Personality Item Pool, a public-domain bank.

  • A result sheet, not a score

    At the end, a sheet gives a preference share for each of the trainer's own nine traits, relative to your own choices only. The sheet draws them as a radar and as bars from the most preferred trait to the least, with a response-consistency score that shows how steadily the same trait won when the same two traits came back. Nothing is graded, ranked or counted, and only the sheet is saved, never your answers.
